Ethiopia’s only female miller and exporter, Asnakech Thomas, takes great pride in making sure only perfectly ripe cherries make it through her mill. This organic, dry-processed coffee was grown in the Amaro Mountains on farms that are actively fighting climate change by planting native trees amongst their crops. In the cup, it offers milk chocolate and ripe peach flavors.

For Asnakech, this is a labor of love. After living abroad for many years, she returned to her native Amaro region to improve not only the quality of the coffee, but the living conditions of her community. She oversees harvest, sorting, milling, and warehousing at her facility, allowing her impeccable control over her crops. She has both wet and dry mills on her Amaro farm where local growers can bring their freshly picked, perfectly ripe coffees for processing. They offer continued training to farmers to increase yield and quality, and founded the first women-in-coffee association in the region. The farm also funds book and laptop purchases for local schools, as well as sponsoring the Amaro Gayo Football team which plays in the junior soccer league.
