Kalsada Coffee is a social enterprise that champions Filipino coffee producers and their dedicated efforts to bring quality coffee to the specialty market. Thanks to the generosity of Kickstarter supporters, friends, and family both in and out of the coffee industry, Kalsada established their first community mill in Sitio Belis, located in Benguet. Home to both vegetable farmers and growers, this region has been cultivating coffee since the end of WWII. However, individual farmers were processing coffees in different ways, using practices that were either passed on from their predecessors or other farmers who have joined trainings outside the community. The creation of the processing mill has allowed 50 families of farmers to train together and elevate their standards.

Kalsada Coffee and the community in Sitio Belis have done a lot of work in creating systems to produce quality coffee, and they’re still learning year after year. They plan to work on more tree rejuvenation projects, start a coffee tree nursery, and build additional drying space to catch up with the 45% production increase this past crop season.

When we first released this coffee a year ago, many customers were pleasantly surprised and said that this coffee was smooth, sweet, and easy to drink, and we couldn’t agree more. With delicate notes of kalamansi (Philippine lime) and latik (toasted coconut milk curd used as a topping in Filipino desserts), Sitio Belis makes a well-rounded cup of coffee that is excitably strange yet comforting.
